GAPS is recruiting new Management Board members

GAPS Management Board recruitment

Deadline: Monday 4th December, at 09.00 UK time

GAPS is recruiting for five new members to join our Management Board. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to be involved in the governance and future direction of our dynamic network, including approving the GAPS Strategy, making key financial and human resource decisions and agreeing on main policy positions. To bring our Board to quorum and align with our new Terms of Reference, we are looking for two new members from GAPS Member organisations and three new members external to the network.

Gender Action for Peace and Security (GAPS) is the UK’s Women, Peace and Security civil society network. GAPS was founded to progress the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, and to hold the UK government to account on its international commitments to women and girls affected by conflict worldwide.

Management Board members should be diverse, represent GAPS’s membership and be derived from the different categories of GAPS members: women’s rights organisations; multi-mandates; human rights organisations; and peacebuilding organisations. Individuals from non-GAPS Member Organisations are also strongly encouraged to apply, including practitioners or academics within the Women, Peace and Security field and/or human rights organisations; humanitarian; development; and peacebuilding organisations.

As we continue working to decolonise our practice and build an anti-racist organisation, we actively welcome applications from Black women and Women of Colour who we recognise are under-represented in decision-making spaces in the UK international development sector. GAPS members vote for Management Board members, and GAPS hopes that at least 50% of Management Board members will be Black and People of Colour.

On this occasion, the Board is particularly interested in appointing Members who have experience or understanding of one or more of the following:

  • Applicants with experience of working on Women, Peace and Security policy and practice, especially those from the Global South
  • Applicants with experience of senior management and leadership, especially organisational risk management and human resources
  • Applicants with experience of marketing, communications and fundraising for small organisations
  • Applicants with a legal or academic background.

All applicants will need to be prepared to devote 0.5 day per month to this exciting role.

For full information of the responsibilities required as part of this role, please see the full Terms of Reference and the GAPS strategy.

Interested representatives should apply to join the Management Board by emailing info@gaps-uk.org by 4th December with their: name; job title; organisation; and summary of what they will bring to the GAPS Management Board (approx. 350-400 words). Please use the subject heading “GAPS Management Board application”.

The closing date is Monday 4th December at 09.00 UK time with interviews held on w/c 11th December & w/c 18th December.

GAPS is an independent network hosted by Saferworld, which is also a member organisation. This recruitment will be led by the GAPS’s Director and follow GAPS’s rules and procedures.
