UNSCR 1325 Anniversary Month!
October marked the 20th anniversary of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325, also known as the Women, Peace and Security agenda. This year’s anniversary month looked very different due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Whilst there would be celebrations in person in New York marking this year under a Women, Peace and Security week, we instead tuned into events and webinars over the month, commemorating this anniversary virtually. The Security Council had its open debate on Women, Peace and Security as planned, read a summary from WILPF here.
This month GAPS held an event to mark the 20th Anniversary of UNSCR 1325, in which we reflected on the past and look to the future of the Women, Peace and Security agenda. GAPS also joined UN Women, UNDP and the Norway Mission to the UN to discuss Women’s Leadership for Resilient COVID-19 Responses, and co-hosted an event with the UK Mission to the EU on Gender, Climate and Conflict: Women, Peace and Security in a Vulnerable World.
